Michael Constantinou is one half of Sydney’s iconic Skin Deep, a label bridging the gap of tailored suiting, personality and laid back style. Designing to the beat of their own drum, Skin Deep is not influenced by trends, rather they look to timeless and classic eras for influence.

Q. What should one expect when walking into Skin Deep?
You can expect to be confronted by an eclectic mix of something for everyone; styles inspired by time gone by, all the way through to current trends. Make sure you’ve got your credit card, you will be tempted!!

Q. You have dressed some of Hollywoods leading men. Who do you give the stylish nod of approval to? (we just want to hear about Jack Nicholson)
The only thing I can tell you about Jack is that I missed him when he came into the store to purchase his pineapple shirt and delinquent jacket. This was most distressing for me and I have not gotten over it, even to this day. I’d have to say that the most stylish Hollywood leading man to get decked out in Skin Deep in my opinion, would be Laurence Fishburne – now there’s a man who likes clothes and loves to wear them!

Q. Ultimate travel destination?
My ultimate travel destination would have to be the ancient city of Istanbul. I’ve never been there but hear it’s a very exciting city, and life needs to be filled with excitement. What a place to start, good food… good climate… great textiles… and even though I am Greek, I believe they are lovely people and from Istanbul you hop to anywhere your heart desires.

Q. You’re very stylish. Is there a certain trend or look that you disagree with?
Is there a certain trend I disagree with? No, not really, who am I to disagree with ones choice of how they want to look? Each to their own I say, one is not judged by the calibre of what they wear rather by the calibre of who they are.

Q. James Dean, Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen or Johnny Depp. Which is your preferred style icon. And yes you have to choose one…
Whooow that’s a hard one given that they are all in a world of style on their own. Well I guess its like this: if i wanted to look sharp in a formal way it would have to be Frank, if I wanted to look cool in a casual way I’d say Steve, if I wanted to look cool and didn’t give a fuck I’d say James, and if was 40 years younger I would say Johnny.

Q. Where do you get it frequently?
Where do I get it frequently? Well I don’t get it frequently enough that’s for sure!

Q. Anything to plug while you’re here?
Well, I would like to plug lots of things but I don’t think this is the time or place to do so!! (laughs)
